Welcome to the December edition of the ASTRO SA newsletter. The computer is back along with all of it's files thankfully, so we are back to normal, well as normal as one can be with the thought of moving house in less than 2 weeks! Speaking of that, I will be contactable on the above phone number up to December 1st, but until we are allocated a new number please direct any ASTRO enquiries to Ashley on 278 3694. The new logo is on its way, with Tony doing some artistic manipulations on it, so hopefully a new look newsletter will appear with the first edition next year.

NOVEMBER MEETING.

After almost 3 years of meetings at our house in Aldgate, the November meeting began at our new location in Eden Hills at around 8PM. Thanks to Michael and Lesley for their generosity in providing this excellent venue for us. The larger meeting area was soon filled up as 28 people attended this months event which included 3 visitors from Melbourne and 2 new "locals" in the form of Riina and Jason. (plus Yoda the cat!) Ashley began proceedings by welcoming everyone and Dan presented the Treasurers report. To much mutterings of "its about time", it was announced that we have finally subscribed to the Extraordinary Science magazine and ordered six back copies thanks to Ashley and Peters Visa card. 1 then read the correspondence for the month which included a letter from Robert (Queensland), the Creative Science catalogue, the Insider newsletter, a letter and various lots of information from Cliff and an article on the Ray - X - Button from Peter.

The general part of the meeting began with Tony trying to flog off sets of magnets from IBM mainframes for $10 a set. Dino then talked about fuel cell technologies and the effects of radiation from video monitors, etc. One of our interstate visitors, Charles pointed out that some Swiss research has found a particular " of cactus that absorbs this type of radiation. Tony talked about the Internet and said that there is now a mailing list for Free Energy topics from which he has downloaded about 200 pages worth for ASTRO.

George gave an enlightening talk on 4th Dimensional Physics and explained why there is such a thing as the 4th dimension even though conventional science dismisses it as not real. It was a great talk and drifted into such subjects as Orgone boxes, Morphogenic fields and measuring the speed of light. Andrew brought up the subjects of an oil treatment for cars which uses an electrical charge to repel the wearing surfaces, a radio which runs by clockwork for use in areas where there is no power and a product that he sells called Pyscoginal - Ralph noted however that the same result can be obtained with grape seeds! (and they are cheaper)

Charles then explained to everyone what he is working with in Victoria. He is an engineer who manufactures pyramids from 10Omm square up to 3 metres square using copper tube. They are used for everything from holding back the ripening of fruit to healing people who sit inside them. Charles is also using colour and is now getting into using sound as well by means of a Vibraphone in his healing techniques. Finally Ralph donated the latest New Energy News to the library along with a BRSF video on Free Energy Research. I would also like to thank Charles for his donation of two videos and other printed matter for the library. Ashley played the edited highlights of the Lazaar tape on Area 51 to finish off the meeting followed by supper, which for the first time in 3 years I did not have to organise!!!

CREATIVE SCIENCE & RESEARCH CATALOGUE.

I received a phone call this week to say that the plans for the 200HP fueless engine which was shown in the catalogue in last months newsletter has arrived in Sydney. That's the good news! The bottom line as it has been reported to me is that it is basically a not so good copy of the Edwin Gray motor. The plans on how to build it are there, but apparently a lot of the parts such as the '12V\5000V inverter" and the "special iron core solenoids" are given in block form in the original plans, with the option of either buying them outright or buying more plans for those particular parts from Creative Science. This could get expensive!! On a rating out of 10, the original purchaser has given them a 3. We shall have to wait and see what else arrives that other people have ordered from the same catalogue.

THERMAL ENERGY ACCUMULATED PRODUCTS.

Below is part of a FAX received by Cliff from TEAP regarding their TVM electricity generation system. This was sent on 18-10-95 and suggests that they are getting close to having the unit up and running.

"The TVM - Thermo Volumetric Motor is in its final stages of tooling. All things being equal, we hope it is running in the next 4 - 6 weeks. Once we have data and statistics regarding efficiencies, output, cost to purchase, etc. I will forward these to ASTRO immediately. The TVM has no combustion, no emissions, no high temperatures and will operate 24 hours per day, energy free except for stored solar energy via our patented thermal storage." - Kester Solomon.

REMOTE AREA POWER SUPPLIES (R.A.P.S.)

Randal has submitted this article on R.A.P.S. showing the advantages of using a 120 volt battery bank rather than the usual 12 volts. This system, which could be more expensive to install due to the increase in the number of solar cells and batteries, does give higher efficiencies and also allows smaller diameter wiring to be used in the house without the inherent voltage drop problems of low voltage systems. In fact ETSA actually uses 120 volt battery systems to run control equipment in their substations for the very reasons that Randal gives in this article.

"Most people looking at setting up a R.A.P.S. system will go straight for a low voltage D.C. to 240 volt A.C. system. However there is an alternative, a total 115 volt D.C. to A.C. system. Although this is not as appliance convenient in Australia, it still has some definite advantages, which are safety, efficiency and economy. Halve the voltage and it means its much safer. Improved efficiency is achieved by not using transformers with an auxiliary generating set or in the inverter. Reduced transmission loss from wind or hydro generators is an advantage while the inverter is cheaper and simpler because a large transformer and auto standby circuit are not required. High primary current switching is also avoided. The battery bank should also be economical because all batteries are 12 volt and can be replaced separately if necessary.

What about appliances? Many small to medium appliances made for international markets already have 115 / 230 volt selector switches. Incandescent lamps are available while fluorescent lamps and many other appliances can be converted. A step up transformer can be used for difficult appliances or even a step down transformer can be used backwards. The simplified block diagram system shown with this article is likely to have an overall efficiency of 10 - 20% higher than a low voltage DC to 240 AC system. The inverter in this system consists only of a transistor bridge arrangement and control circuitry. This circuit will produce a voltage regulated, modified square wave in its simplest form and can run efficiently (up to 99%) 24 hours a day with no need to power down for economy. So who needs 240 volts anyway when you don't need to transmit power across a suburb and run an electric stove and clothes dryer at the other end?"

HMS ELECTROLYSER CELL.

The following article is a reprint of part of a brochure that I received back from HMS on their commercially available units for "on demand" hydrogen generation for motor vehicles. They are sending me details of efficiencies, gas volume, etc. when they have completed testing on this and other units they are producing.

STIRLING ENGINE (PART 1)

Recently I was paid a visit by Daryl and Zeta while on their way through Adelaide. They brought with them a range of "toys" amongst which was a model Stirling engine. 1 thought that this technology had died a long time ago, but Daryl set me straight on that. Apparently this type of engine is what drives the new Collins Class submarine which are being built here in Adelaide. What they are using as a heat source seems to be a bit of a secret but the advantage of using this type of engine is that there is no ignition, so there is no radio interference and also it runs silently. They are also used in satellites to generate power from solar heat collectors - so it appears that the Stirling engine is alive and well. Most of the information in these articles comes from either, an excellent book called "Stirling Cycle Engines" by Andy Ross which is available from WSSM, PO Box 1200, Caboolture, Queensland, 4510 (Telephone: (015) 58 7279), or from Peter Manning's collection of information on this subject.

What is it? Basically it is a heat engine that derives its heat from an external source, just like a steam engine. Where the Stirling engine is better than the steam engine is in its efficiency where around 38% is claimed out of modem machines. The advantage of the heat source being external is that this engine can run on anything that will create enough heat, from burning cow poo to solar collectors. It can also use stored heat using the phase change of salts (from liquid to solid) similar to the TEAP process from Western Australia. Salts such as lithium fluoride change their state at around 1550 degrees F which is in the correct range for the "hot" end of an efficient Stirling engine. Thus by using space age techniques of thermal insulation, the heat can be stored in a thermal storage "battery" and then used to run the engine later. This is the same principle as using solar panels and lead acid batteries except the thermal battery/Stirling system can be recharged much faster and can store over 8 times more shaft power per pound than a lead acid battery.

Combustion conditions in the Stirling produces practically no carbon monoxide or unburned hydrocarbons, and the level of nitrogen oxides is also relatively low. In the terms of these three pollutants, the Stirling engine is about the cleanest heat engine available at this time. If it was running by using a hydrogen flame as its heat source it would be THE cleanest heat engine available, without the worries about getting correct air/fuel mixtures or engine timing settings.

Next month we will look at how this remarkable engine works.

TAPPING AN AMBIENT POWER SOURCE BY RESONANT EXCITATION

This article follows on from the brief "MRA2" item in the October newsletter which contained the circuit diagram for this version of the device.

"It has been discovered that an apparently hitherto unknown or unexploited source of ambient power exists everywhere on earth (extrapolating from experiments in Atlanta, GA and Austin, TX!) and from which essentially "FREE" energy can be extracted at almost no cost, merely by using the  Key Concept in the Wootan/McClain discovery, namely external harmonic excitation of a saturable core transformer, which causes it to act like an Antenna that extracts ambient energy in amounts 19 times or more than the energy required for the harmonic excitation. Indeed, the original MRA design continues to work and to exceed all original expectations. In the M1RA2 configuration, even when the piezoelectric capacitor has been removed and even when the primary resonant circuit has been cut, it still continues to produce verifiable output power' All that is required is a single wire from the AC Signal Generator to the saturable-core transformer of the original MRA disclosure in order to cause useful power to be generated in the secondary circuit in amounts vastly greater than the power input from the harmonic Signal Generator. This appears to be an electrical analogue of the chemical phenomenon of Catalysis, namely the periodic pulses of energy into the transformer 'catalyze' the transformer's nature so that it operates in an apparently hitherto never before seen mode, namely it behaves like a novel 'Antenna' which is extracting AMBIENT ENERGY from "somewhere"! It is not necessary to understand completely at this time what the source of Ambient Energy may be, in order to exploit the phenomenon in an environmentally benign way for the benefit of mankind.

Retired physicist Greg Hodowanec, who duplicated the MRA independently after learning about it from the New Energy News newsletter, which reproduced the Internet announcement of Wootan and McClain, suggests that the ambient energy comes from the earth's gravitational field and is somehow being converted into electrical energy. Former BYU professor of Physics & Astronomy, Dr. Bob Bass speculates that MRA2 (as was the original MRA1) may be somehow tapping the ambient electromagnetic energy known to exist in the Earth-Ionosphere Cavity in the form of Schumann Resonances which are continually resupplied every time a lightning bolt from a cloud strikes the earth. "As explained in the Second Edition of Jackson's classical book on Electromagnetism, the great genius Nikola Tesla discovered the Schumann Resonances experimentally 50 years before Schumann predicted them theoretically," says Bass, who adds that he once calculated that "every cubic meter of space near the surface of the earth contains on the order of one kilowatt of standing waves, similar to those in a microwave oven except at vastly reduced frequencies, which no one knows how to extract efficiently." Or do they? The late Utah inventor Moray, author of a book entitled "The Sea of Energy in Which the Earth Floats", astounded famous scientists in the 1920s and 1930s with never explained demonstrations of his ability to extract 3 kilowatts from 'nowhere' at will, anywhere (even randomly selected points in the desert), using his unexplained Moray Valve. Moray submitted a Patent Application, but withdrew it and his secret died with him. Admirers of Moray point out that his writings included the words "Germanium triode" decades before the Transistor was discovered by Bell Labs scientists (who won a Nobel Prize) and who had been directed into solid-state physics by the late Harvey Fletcher, who had earlier witnessed Moray's work and been shown every detail except the secret of the vest-pocket-sized Moray Valve. Whatever the Ambient Energy Reservoir into which the MRA is tapping, the novel phenomenon is real and deserving of exhaustive further investigation, according to elated inventors Wootan, McClain, Taylor and McCracken, who urge independent investigators to seek to replicate their discovery." - Norm Wootan and friends.

TURBOGENERATOR

A company called Allied Signal of Torrance, California, have developed                                                                                 a turbogenerator for use in hybrid electric vehicles. The unit will run on any combustible fuel and operates as a turbine / generator to recharge the batteries as the vehicle travels AIR INLET along. Fuel and air are fed into a chamber called the combustor and are ignited to produce high temperature, high pressure gas. The gas drives a turbine / generator wheel connected to a compressor which sucks in outside air and shunts it to the
combustor. The turbogenerator is compact, lightweight, and has only one moving part the turbine / generator / compressor unit. Under ordinary conditions, a turbine operating at about 6,000 rpm would need a step down mechanical gearbox to step down the current load to power an electric car. However, Allied Signal has developed a method that electrically "conditions" the current so that it can be accepted by ordinary electrical equipment. In a hybrid drive train, the turbogenerator could produce electricity to supplement battery power, or it could be used as a primary electrical power source. Plans are in place to have the unit power a bus and possibly a hybrid car under the development of a Detroit manufacturer. Its first installation will however be on a battle tank (that would be right!) as a supplemental motor for electrical components. There it offers the added benefit of providing purified air for the tank crews.

MOTHER EARTH'S QUOTE OF THE MONTH.

"Mother Earth" has decided to give some advice each month to help reduce pollution on an everyday practical level. You know, the sort of stuff that you don't need a science degree to achieve, but on the other hand it's also often the simple things that we DON'T DO!!

"Remember to help the earth by dropping off your old phone books in the recycling bin at a BP Service Station!!"

HONDA ECONOCAR

Sydney company AGL  have been doing developmental work on a Honda Civic Vei, to run it on natural gas. The car was originally brought into Australia as the Australian Design Rules prototype, which means it doesn't have a compliance plate and so after three years it must be compressed into a bale of scrap metal to make sure it is kept off the roads! The engine in this vehicle has variable valve timing and two inlet valves per cylinder. However only one inlet valve opens at low engine speeds and two open at higher speeds. This results in mixture velocity and swirl characteristics that allow very high oxygen to fuel ratios, good economy and very low emissions. In 1993 this vehicle won the small car class of the Energy Challenge running on a mixture of petrol and ethanol. Its fuel consumption was 3.4 L / 100 KM. (about 80 MPG) The car was then converted to natural gas and came second in the car division of the 1994 Energy Challenge. This time it recorded fuel economy of 4 L / 100 KM. (about 70 MPG) Apparently the car is more sluggish on gas in traffic this being partly due to the high gearing fitted for economy.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The next meeting will be held once again at our new spacious venue at Eden Hills at 7.30PM on the second Friday of the month which is: FRIDAY DECEMBER 8TH

I am hoping to organise a demonstration of a new oil filtration system called a PURIFINER which allows 160,OOOKM or 2,OOOHRS between oil changes - more on that next month. Anyway what we will definitely have is an edited version of a video of HOWARD MENGER talking on his theories of gravity and demonstrating his anti-gravity devices.

The usual applies in that please bring $3.00 to cover video purchase and newsletter postage, and something for supper would be appreciated. I hope to see you all there!!!!

A final note: Please remember that the 12 O'clock finishing time is still applicable.
