INCORPORATED

Adelaide Branch

Welcome to the August newsletter. I would like to thank Ashley and Dan for joining me on the committee for the next 12 months. It was disappointing however to observe that it was left to a relative newcomer to the group like Dan to volunteer for the job of Treasurer when it was obvious that none of the longer standing members were going to offer their support, even though it only meant about one half an hour a month of their time. This lack of participation also extends to the monthly meetings where there are always the few who SHARE their projects and results, while there are others who just soak up the information and don't give back anything positive. While I am on a roll here I must also bring up the subject of the missing articles that Michael brought along to the June meeting. (see last months newsletter) In particular, the missing item on magnetic shielding has been asked for by several people, but last months request for this and the other articles return has been ignored. Somebody within OUR GROUP must have taken it that night - PLEASE RETURN IT so that ALL MAY SHARE IT!!!! Please think about what I have written as it is your group as much as it is mine or anyone elses - the percentage that belongs to you depends on what you are willing to put into it.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

As reported in the above comments, the new committee was elected at the AGM for the next twelve months. Ashley was re-elected as Chairman, myself as Secretary and Dan as Treasurer. Thankyou to the two "full time" committee members as well as to Leon for filling the casual vacancy again this year, plus a thankyou to Kevin for his support as Treasurer for the last 18 months. With this out of the way, the AGM was closed and the July monthly meeting began.

JULY MEETING

This months meeting began at 8.20PM with 20 people present and apologies from George and Dino. Kevin gave his final Treasurers report and I followed with the Secretaries report. Correspondence this month included a letter from Cliff, a letter and some photos from Raphael, the Victorian ASTRO news sheet, and a letter from Lindsay. I also relayed the information from Fuzzy of Fuzzies Farm regarding the Centre for Sustainable Technology which is being set up with $400,000 of Government money. We have been requested to visit the site to decide whether we have a place as a group in the project. The committee will be doing this hopefully before the next meeting.

The meeting was then opened to general topics, with a report on the trip to Melbourne being given by Andrew, Roger and myself (see report later in this newsletter) Visitors to the group were then introduced and a discussion on radionics and Rife machines followed. Ashley displayed a new video tape on UFOs that he had just bought and a decision was made to change the meeting dates to the SECOND FRIDAY of the month instead of the third. This is so that more people can attend as the third Friday clashes with a couple of other meetings that are held on the same night elsewhere in Adelaide. Robert said he knew the whereabouts of some 11,000 volt transformers for sale and was taken up on the offer quickly by a few people. (there must be some great electric fences out there) Ashley tried to give away a cassette player but got no takers and Andrew gave an update on the steam project. I think he should write a book entitled "Tales of the Bongo.

Allan gave a brief overview of the planetary alignment which was occurring the next day and details of a world meditation that was happening to coincide with it. This was followed by the Split Cycle video, which was really unusual because we could see and hear it clearly, just like a real movie! The meeting closed at around 11 something and the last few ventured out into the gales some time after midnight.

MELBOURNE TRIP

Andrew, Roger and I recently travelled over to Melbourne to attend the Searl lecture. We decided to go a few days earlier to visit people who were doing similar things to us, and we were not disappointed. We stopped over at a small country town about half way on our trip to talk to a guy who had achieved some remarkable mileage figures on a Falcon using exhaust heat. We certainly got more than we expected when we were welcomed into his garage to have a look at what he was doing. In the garage was an HQ Holden with a flywheel set up to run in a vacuum where the old petrol engine used to be. He told us that the flywheel is driven up to 2000 RPM by a starter motor and then automatically runs in the range of 2000 - 4000 RPM by means of a solenoid which switches a smaller electric motor in and out to maintain the speed of the flywheel via an electric clutch. This motor only draws about 4 Amps while an alternator driven off the flywheel replaces the charge in the battery. A vacuum pump keeps the flywheel chamber evacuated while a modified Holden oil pump keeps the oil circulating in the motor. After getting over this surprise he then showed us manifolds he had made to recirculate exhaust heat and mix it with the incoming fuel back into the engine. He had used this system on a Falcon and a Volkswagen, both of which had increased power and fuel economy. He also told us of a person in a nearby town who was running the Tom Ogle type system of drawing fuel vapours off the top of the fuel tank. This was fitted to a Valiant and I think he said was getting around 60 MPG. The only problem he initially had was that the tank would freeze up as the fuel vapourised but he overcame that problem by routing the engine hot water through the fuel tank using copper pipes.

While we were in Melbourne we spent a fair amount of time at Ians swapping info and generally having a good rave. Ian took us to visit Mike who has done a lot of Adams motor work as well as assorted electronic and chemical based experimenting, and then we headed somewhere else ! (by this time none of us had any idea where we were) We ended up meeting Les who is doing a lot of H2 work. He gave us a demonstration of his Hydrogen welder which is just about on the market. The demonstration consisted of the usual melting of tungsten, glass and bricks - very impressive. We then went inside and discussed enough that would probably fill a 16 page newsletter on its own. Basically Hydrogen was the main subject but the highlight of the afternoon was definitely his wife's afternoon tea! We then somehow found our way back to Ians dodging the rain, peak hour traffic and chain collisions. (good lane choice Roger) The evening was finished off with some of  Ians fine cooking, watching some videos that we hadn't seen before and guess what? - more talking.

Saturday was the Searl lecture (see report elsewhere in this newsletter) which I thought was definitely worth going to, as it doesn't matter how many books you read, I find that a real life explanation is easier to understand. (I now have some idea of how the SEG works) After the lecture we chatted to some interesting people who had been involved in the usual pursuits of groups like ours, with one particular person telling us of his attempts to get his engine that he has invented marketed. His engine is radial in design, has been shown on television, and has ONE central moving part which is made up of three individual parts. He said it can be scaled from one to power a lawn mower up to one to drive the Queen Mary! He has basically given up trying to produce them after spending $1 million dollars of his own money and having several investors either pulling out after they have agreed to back him or suddenly going bankrupt themselves. Then it was back to Ians and with family in tow it was into Melbourne for dinner, followed by the tourist route home.

Finally Sunday had arrived and it was time to depart. Ian made a quick video of our heat exchanger and test results and then we headed off into the South Australian sunset with this strange sound coming from the car.... yak yak yak yak yak...

A special thanks to the Hacon family for their hospitality during our stay and in particular to Ian who disrupted his busy schedule to take us around Melbourne while we were there.

TESLA TURBINE (PART 2)

This month we will look at the original drawings and part of the description used in the U. S. Patent 1,061,206, dated May 6th, 1913.

"Figure 1 is a partial end view, and Figure 2 a vertical cross-section of a rotary engine or turbine, constructed and adapted to be operated in accordance with the principles of my invention. The apparatus comprises a runner composed of a plurality of flat rigid disks 13 of suitable diameter, keyed to a shaft 16, and held in position thereon by a threaded nut 11, a shoulder 12, and intermediate washers 17. The disks have openings 14 adjacent to the shaft and spokes 15, which may be substantially straight. For the sake of clearness, but a few disks, with comparatively wide intervening spaces are illustrated.

The runner is mounted in a casing comprising two end castings 19, which contain the bearings for the shaft 16, indicated but not shown in detail: stuffing boxes 21 and outlets 20. The end castings are united by a central ring 22, which is bored out to a circle of a slightly larger diameter than that of the disks, and has flanged extensions 23, and inlets 24, into which finished ports or nozzles 25 are inserted. Circular grooves 26 and labyrinth packing 27 are provided on the sides of the runner. Supply pipes 28, with valves 29 are connected to the flanged extensions of the central ring, one of the valves being normally closed.

For a more ready and complete understanding of the principle of operation it is of advantage to consider first the actions that take place when the device is used as a turbine. Assuming that the fluid under pressure be allowed to pass through the valve at the side of the solid arrow, the runner will be set in rotation in a clockwise direction, the fluid travelling in a spiral path and with continuously diminishing velocity until it reaches the orifices 14 and 20, through which it is discharged. If the runner be allowed to turn freely, in nearly frictionless bearings, its rim will attain a speed closely approximating the maximum of that of the adjacent fluid and the spiral path of the particles will be comparatively long, consisting of many almost circular turns. If load is put on and the runner is slowed down, the motion of the fluid is retarded, the turns are reduced, and the path is shortened."

In the next newsletter we will look at the efficiency of the Tesla turbine, which is quite a controversial and debateable subject in itself.  Claims of almost 100% have been made, while other research suggests that the maximum obtainable efficiency cannot exceed 50%. Hopefully I can shed some light on this next month.

SEARL CONFERENCE

Thankyou to Roger for Part 1 of a report on the recent Searl Conference that we attended in Melbourne. Due to space constraints Part 2 will be in the next newsletter.

After a couple of days travelling and visiting some very interesting people, Bruce, Andrew and myself from ASTRO SA, along with Ian (Andrews host for the weekend) were able to attend the Searl lecture in Melbourne. The change in the weather was welcomed particularly after the near miss in the rain and the peak hour traffic the night before and the not so near miss for the three cars alongside of us. (How's your nerves fellas?) The lecture was held at the Ringwood Convention Centre and drew a crowd of near 100 people.

The opening was by John Thomas, an American associate of Professor Searl. He read out a letter that Prof Searl had written to John Major in which he took Major to task about the lack of support for British inventors, Searl suggesting that if he couldn't improve their lot then he should stand down and allow himself to become Prime Minister and help make Britain Great again. After being introduced by John Thomas, Prof Searl began by giving an update on what was happening throughout the world with his technology. He said that a contract to supply 8, 30 Megawatt power generators for the German Power Company had been put on hold, and may be granted to a Japanese company. He also mentioned that the boss of the German company said that they were wasting their time trying to build an SEG (Searl Effect Generator) but this man's son was working hard to get some results. The suggestion was that they would soon have an SEG up and running and under test". 1n
America a group is working on a power generatof' and "in the UK they are going to build a flying disc." Prof Searl said
that as soon as he returned to Britain he would begin on the first of the 8 landing legs for the new craft. In California
they are working on a 100 foot disc."

Following this short segment we were shown a seemingly random series of slides with Prof Searl expanding on the illustrations and graphs often going off on a tangent with various anecdotes. At 1 1.00AM we were asked if there were any questions. The first (and only) question was "How much would a home unit cost?" The answer "If you have argon and all the raw materials, $30,000 at least - rare earths are expensive." Unfortunately Prof Searl didn't stop for any further questions and continued talking for another hour. He told of how as a young man in the 40's he experimented with a small unit in his landlady's house, eventually smashing a disc up through the ceiling and out through the roof He spent 3 months in prison for "Wilful Damage." Following this he moved in with an old man who financed his experiments. He built 6 more craft but each one was lost because as he increased its electrical load it would become airborne, hover at rooftop level and then shoot off into space. This was despite attempting to tether them with wire cables. He was also most unpopular with neighbours because while the craft was hovering, apparently all the radios nearby came on "full bore." Finally after the old man died, Searl was ordered out of the area by the locals.

Later in the 50's while attempting to find the reason for the levitation he was able to discount electrostatics as the reason, for it did not have enough power to provide the lifting effect. Likewise that centrifugal force does not force electrons out of the rollers to provide any lift. Apparently the reason was that at speed the temperature drops, the machine becomes superconductive and then flies.

Prof Searl mentioned being badly burnt in an explosion" but being in the field generated by the SEG his skin healed perfectly." Another comment was that sitting near an SEG makes you feel good, like drinking good spring water." Before breaking for lunch, Searl told how he has been approached to have a film made of his life, the likely title being "The Searl Effect." During the lunch break a video was played with various segments from the BBC on Searl's life and experiments while we were able to meet and speak with John Thomas and the man behind the Searl Group Australia, Steve Walker.

THERMAL CHARGER - FUEL SAVER

Yet another fuel saving device has hit the market, this time aimed at the diesel truck market. Called the Thermal Charger, the high-tech fuel temperature control system is said to significantly reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions in virtually any
type of heavy duty diesel engine.

The device optimises fuel viscosity, improves combustion efficiency and reduces omissions, effectively enabling even older engines to perform like the latest designs. The system works by re-routing and recirculating excess hot fuel, mixing it in a
blending chamber with cooler fuel from the tank to the optimum combustion  temperature. At the same time, where fuel is below temperature a heat exchanger is used to warm the fuel, with an internal fuel thermostat used to monitor the whole system. Fuel economy improvements are claimed to be between 5 and 12 percent depending on engine specification, and lowering of CO emissions by 38 percent.

Installation packages for the Thermal Charger are available to suit engines up to 450 horsepower, with national distribution due to be finalised shortly. At present the unit can be bought through Fuel Efficiency Systems Australia, with enquiries directed to Mr Tony Noske on 0 18 52 7188 or 055 22 0139.

FREE ENERGY BOOKS, JOURNALS, ETC.

This item came from the Internet and contains some interesting information on books, newsletters, etc. which I thought could be useful for those looking at Free Energy devices.

"There have been numerous complaints that "free energy" or "overunity" devices are perpetual motion machines, and therefore are impossible because they violate laws of entropy and energy conservation. These complaints are not really fair, since these devices are generally considered by workers in the field to be either energy receivers or matter/energy converters. For example, Neuman's explanation of his motor involves loss of mass from the copper windings, and the Moray Device is thought to tap into an unknown energy flow coming from space. Bearden's theories involve tapping the energy of the vacuum, and may explain the claimed operation of the Hendershott, McKie, Sweet, DePalma, and other devices." For info on all of these, see below.

TESLA COIL LEGALITIES

Michael has passed on this item written by a Myke Stanbridge regarding the legalities of operating a Tesla coil. My only query is that if this information be correct, does that mean that everyone driving a vehicle fitted with an ignition coil has to comply with these regulations?

"OPERATING A TESLA COIL WITHOUT A PERMT IS ILLEGAL in most countries. They can interfere with radio frequency transmissions in general and with many emergency bands in particular. RFI & TV1 as well as the risk of feedback into the AC mains is not looked upon kindly by the authorities. Any HF or RF step-up transformer (Tesla coil) must be in a shielded room (Faraday cage) with "all" electrics going in and out via broad band filters. Besides this, anyone that can "see" the ultra violet the arcs & sparks make must wear protective glasses. The ozone gas produced may also be a problem!!                                                                                                                  ..............................................Myke."

*** STOP PRESS *** STOP PRESS *** STOP PRESS *** STOP PRESS

I have been told that on a recent edition of Beyond 2000 there was a segment on a device for powering electric cars to eliminate the batteries. From the description given to me it sounds remarkably similar to the Searl disc as it had rollers rotating around a ring with the power being taken off coils mounted on the outside of the device. If anyone has taped this segment of the show please let me know so we can all have a look at it at the next meeting and also keep a copy of it in the ASTRO library.
