Adelaide Branch

Welcome to the June newsletter. Things have been really quiet this month again as was the May meeting which had our smallest turnout for nearly 2 years. Lets hope things pick up at the next meeting. Is anyone interested in going to the Searl lecture in Melbourne? Please let me know if you are so that transport arrangements etc. can be made.

This months meeting began at 8.1OPM with only 12 people present, with another 4 drifting in as the night progressed building the total to 16. Ashley opened the meeting and after welcoming newcomer John, the Secretaries report was read. Incoming mail this month consisted of a new newsletter subscription and an inquiry from Solarworx, a Sydney enterprise looking at building "Autonomous Solar Shelters" at the Sydney Olympics. The meeting was then thrown open to general discussion with Steve beginning by talking about a report on Quantum in which a new process was shown that enables hard and soft plastics to be mixed and recycled to form car parts. Andrew gave us an update on his steam injection project, the good news being that he has finished modifying the head and the inlet manifold and has the car running very sweetly in standard form, The bad news was that while tapping the manifold to fit the steam tap, a water gallery was holed, which although now repaired, took some time to do so.

Ashley presented some audio tapes for the library (details later in the newsletter), an article on etching glass using electric arcs, an item on Jamie from MuMeson Archives and his UFO chasing activities, and an update on Crop Circles. Andrew brought up the subject of Tesla Turbines which created much discussion on how they are constructed, what they are made of, how efficient they are, etc. etc. Steve must have thought this was all getting a bit boring as he then changed the subject to "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" followed by the latest gossip on Shirley McLaine retrieved from the Womans Weekly by Ashley!!! Colin brought the meeting back to a point of some seriousness by passing around an article on a Russian therapy machine which is built along the lines of the Rife frequency machine. This led to an update on the Body Electronics scene in Adelaide that Andrew spoke about at the last meeting.

Roger reported on his experiments with the TOMI device after the success of linear version demonstrated at the April meeting. Unfortunately he has not managed to get the rotary version working yet, but who knows what next month may bring. I then gave an explanation of the modifications that Jeff and I have made to his fuel vapour system, which we are hoping will improve the economy of his car over what has already been achieved. Finally, for a bit of fun and edificashon, Ashley passed around his rotating balls on a stick to test everyone's body integration of left and right hemispheres of the brain.

Roger brought along a short excerpt from a Beyond 2000 episode about a fuel cell being tested by Mercedes. This video was very interesting and included a short item on alternative power for vehicles in which a solar car and a steam car were shown. This was followed by the video on Nikola Tesla entitled---TheGenius who lit the World". The meeting finished at 10.15 with the last person leaving just after midnight.

Thankyou to Michael for this article on the engine modification developed by Jack Clark called the Clark Tangential Engine. Jack fitted his Holden grey motor with canted bores by boring and sleeving the block at an angle. This allowed the crankshaft journal to be at right angles to the bore With the conrod perpendicular during the power stroke. This effectively reduces the friction of the piston being thrust against the side of the bore, with basically all the force being transmitted to the crankshaft. The torque output for this otherwise stock motor jumped to the same as for a 186 Holden engine, but at 1000RPM lower.

Because of the large increase in torque at lower RPM, Jack was able to change the gearing in the differential from the original 3.89:1 to a remarkable 2.78:1. That is a huge 23% increase in gearing which under normal circumstances should lead to an equivalent drop in efficiency. Jack also changed the rear wheel/tyre combination from 13 inch to 15 inch, increasing the tyre circumference from 72 inches up to 90 inches, or from 5 turns of the original tyre, it now requires only 4 turns of the new tyre to cover the same distance.

The result of this is that the Holden pulls up steep hills in top gear with the engine still showing that it had heaps more torque than standard. At 1000 RPM the car is now doing 35 MPH and after three different tests it showed a consistent return of 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres. That equates to 43 MPG!!!!!! which is a definite improvement over the vehicles original 27 MPG. This works out to be a 59% improvement in fuel economy, showing that whether it is by using fuel vapour or steam or by redesigning the intemals of an engine (to how it should probably have been done in the first place) there are many ways to improve the efficiency of motor vehicles.

Jack is keen to see someone take up his idea commercially and would like to hear from anyone interested in learning more about the Clark Tangential Engine. Contact can be made by phoning Jack on (066) 86 805 1.

An article appeared in a magazine (unknown year) called Light Steam Power about the Pellandine Steam Car. I first heard of Mr Pellandine back in the 70's when he was building fibreglass sports cars in the outer Adelaide suburb of Cherry Gardens. The car was originally sponsored by the South Australian Government while the Adelaide School of Mechanical Engineering had some technical input into the design.

The vehicle takes about one minute for sufficient pressure to be raised for cold starts, while the maximum steam temperature of 823deg.F (475deg.C and pressure of 1150 PSI are controlled by a thermostat and pressurestat respectively acting via micro switches and a control box. A transistor ignition system was first tried but was abandoned as being too fragile, at present relay switches are doing a fine job. The pressure atomising burner uses a 3GPH Danfoss nozzle, supplied by a Danfoss oil pump. The fuel:air mixture, which is ignited by a KLG single probe sparking plug, enters the combustion chamber tangentially, thence descending through the coiled tube section, which uses 350 feet of 1/2 inch diameter stainless steel tube, and exits via a large rectangular section exhaust pipe.

I am assuming that this project was happening in the 70's or at latest in the 80's and as we have not heard anything of it since has probably been shelved. If anyone has more information on this car please let me know.

Nothing has been heard of the MRA this month, but Greg Hodowanec has come up with this design for the "Mini MRA" which he claims works. This information comes via the Internet from Joel McClain.

Cl :                68Opf silver-mica 5%, 50OV (dipped mica) ... only stacked layer capacitors will work... rolled capacitors will

                     NOT work.

L I and L2:     are primary and secondary of stepdown transformer which is marked '5.0 UH, 5: 1 ", and with part #

                        PE-8204. Source not known.

Rl :                 carbon resistor, normally 600R to match sig gen, although LED or other load device can be used.

Core of transformer is ferrite ... very important!

Nonlinear impedance increases as frequency is increased. Circuit gain decreases to unity at 80 KHz, goes up to 500%-1000% at 130-140khz. Listen for capacitor to "sing" as it becomes active as a piezo in the high gain frequency range. Output power will vary with time of day. ie, higher in the early A.M. High Q of circuit will result in high voltages across piezo and primary, relative to source voltage. eg, I've measured 70VAC across them with 14 volts applied. Use appropriate care.                                                                                                                                       .................Greg Hodowanec.

After the successful demonstration of Rogers original TOMI unit, here is an update in which the design is basically the same but steel plates are fitted to one end of the magnets to deflect the field. This information came to us via Internet from Stefan Hartman in Germany who calls his version the PM SQUARE design.

"I will publish all my results and findings, so you are ready to duplicate it yourself and prove me right or wrong. This way the basic design goes to the Public Domain and can't be bought out or will be suppressed ... 1 just claim the inventor rights on the Angle Steel add-on design ! Please copy this file to all people, which care about environment pollution and want to have a so called "free energy" machine.

The most important enhancements over the TOMI design are introduced via 2 angle steel plates at the endings on each track-magnet in the TOMI description called: Runner-magnets. Okay, so how are these 2 Angle Steel plates fitted to the TrackMagnets ? Here is a simple ASCII drawing..

This is the Top View of the Linear Motor design! All magnets used are circular magnets. So the Roller Magnet can roll through the track ! The number of stator track magnets can vary, but should not be too many , because it weakens the flux inside the track. Go for around 7 to 10 magnets first. (7 are shown over here !)

By using Angle Steel plates of ST37 or ST100 (thickness of about 1 to 2.5min), one can force the magnetic flux at the endings of the permanent magnet Stator Track to be going the right way! In this case it prevents to pull the Roller Magnet back into the track, when it leaves the track at the right side ! You can also try to use a "V"-shaped placement of the Stator Track magnets (not putting them in parallel as shown, but at an opening angle of maybe 5 to 10 degrees), which 1 can't draw over here with this simple ASCII-"art"! This enables the Roller magnet to get out of the Stator Track at the ending even better and the killing force at the end of the track is far more weaker !

One has to drop the Roller Permanent Magnet for the best performance (acceleration) into the track at around 90 degrees (also 45 degrees would still work!) at around 1/5 to 1/4 length of the track. This way, the Roller Magnet is just pulled into the track and don't have to go via the slight repulsion gate at the entrance of the track at the very left side ! With using the steel plates fitted to the end of the track magnets you can also try to push the Roller Magnet into the track at the left side, but it will almost kill the received acceleration force from the previous track ! But with using the Angle Steel plates, this killing effect is much less, than without using the Angle Steel plates...

So the secret to a Real Working Linear PM-Square motor are just these Angle Steel Magnetic Flux guidance plates

If you have any question, please drop a note to my email account at: harti@contrib.de Best regards, Stefan Hartmann."

As a follow up to Andrew's talk at the April meeting, he has given me the following information on Body Electronics for inclusion in this months newsletter.

"American Dr John Whitman Ray is the founder of Body Electronics, the science of body regeneration, which uses point holding on the body to clear blockages and heal. Dr Ray works with his assistant and wife Anita Zavatsky Ray, a doctor in acupuncture, Chinese medicine and yoga. In the 1950's he developed a revolutionary technique for sports injuries which developed to what is now known as Body Electronics.

The system of self healing combines nutrient saturation, a form of sustained acupressure and the understanding and the application of laws which govern the physical, emotional and mental body. Dr Ray has based his technique on the ancient teachings of the physicians of the Dalai Lama which involves the concepts of iridology and sclerology. Dr Ray said he had seen brown eyes of Indians and Japanese turn blue. "With due respect to other teachings pertaining to iridology we deal with bodily regeneration which then brings about a unique condition where in the iris returns to the normal colour of blue and the fibre structures in disarray return to a normal condition indicating a healthy well being. This is contrary to traditional iridology because when Body Electronics is properly applied, the body regenerates."

Dr Ray has started writing his discoveries in the Logic of Sequence series. The third book, The Electrification of Matter, details Dr Ray's more advanced work considered by top scientists as the breakthrough of this century in the mind-body relationship. The next step on from Body Electronics is Cranial Electronics which involved restructuring of the cranium. Dr Ray said that when pain is genetically locked in the body, the trauma creates conditions which can actually create disease patterns. When this person relives it and releases it from the body, the cranial returns to a perfect DNA structure."

The restoration of the Enfield Electric car was finally completed early last month, and with some technical difficulties concerning registration approval overcome, the car is now used for daily commuting to work, etc.

The performance is reasonably good and it is pleasant to drive in most traffic situations. Somehow I have already covered 800Kms! Electricity cost has been monitored with a K.W.H. meter and it shows a cost of about 4 cents per kilometre, much cheaper than my previous petrol car and what I like most is that it doesn't stink either!

Here are some specifications for those who are interested.

Manufacture Date -1974.
Motor - 60 Volts, 150 Amps rated, 4 pole, series field, 7KW
Controller - Curtis mosfet P.W.M.
Transmission - Direct drive via 3.55:1 differential.
Performance - Speed 70Kph, Range 60Km approximately.

I have included this item, even though the MRA has appeared to have finally died, because it contains some interesting observations on the magnet material and also on the apparent ability of this device to charge capacitors standing near it. I thought that this may give some incite into what is actually going on with this device.

"Gerald O" asked the question as to the big IBM magnets being barium or strontium composition. It really makes no difference at the level of experimentation that is being done by the field researchers. Greg Hodowanec built several MRA devices and achieved over-unity easily using ordinary ferrite cores. I have built six of the ferrite core units and all are over unity to varying degrees depending on the windings used. If all you experimenters will comply to the PHI ratio when winding the primary and secondary turns ratios (1.618) you will realize excellent performance in the output. This relationship is very important in the windings. The Barium ferrite magnetic core will provide the maximum 0-U performance when you "graduate to the more powerful" applications. Strontium compounded magnets work very nicely in the lower powered units.

Please pay' attention to what I am going to say next. WHEN A HIGH QUALITY LARGE CAPACITORS ARE PLACED IN THE "ETHERIC" FLUX FIELD THAT IS PRESENT AROUND THE MRA WHILE TUNED TO MAXIMUM GAIN, WILL RAPIDLY ASSUME A CHARGE WITHOUT ANY CONNECTIONS WHAT SO EVER. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY TRANSLATION OF THE SCALAR FLUX AND ELECTRON "SPIN WAVES" INTO NORMAL "EM" CHARGE IN THE CAPACITOR. USE EXTREME CAUTION FOR LARGE CAPACITORS WILL SELF CHARGE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE MRA AND CAN LEAD TO DESTRUCTION OF EQUIPMENT AND A SHOCK HAZARD. I found this out by blowing out (like a big red flash bulb) 14 LED's that I had hooked up to one of Greg Hodowanec's "mini MRA' circuits. Jerry Decker and I had discussed this self charging phenomenon back several weeks ago. Try it, for this is another method of translating scalar potentials into useful electrical energy. ...................Norm Wootan"

A series of tests conducted in Germany by Mercedes-Benz has shown that by turning an engine off whenever the car is not moving saves a lot of fuel. The tests were part of a training course, and according to course managers more than 1200 participants have saved about 1.25 million litres of fuel over 117 million kilometres travelled. A pair of 6 cylinder Mercedes, one of which was allowed to idle for one minute, while the other one had its engine turned off and on 30 times during the same time period. The idling engine used fuel at a rate of 1.45 litres per hour, while the stop-start engine used only .85 litres per hour. The balloons on the cars exhaust in the above picture shows the amount of exhaust gas difference after the one minute test.

The next meeting will be held on the third Friday once again, at the usual time of 7.30 PM, the date being:

The video for this meeting will be: Baumgartner Lecture on Water Technologies.

The usual applies in that please bring $3.00 to cover video purchase and newsletter printing and postage, and something for supper would be appreciated. See you there!!!
