MAY TECHNICAL GROUP MEETING.

The meeting began at 8.10pm with 16 people present. Ken welcomed everyone and passed around some sheets which explained the new meeting schedule, with the technical meetings now being held on alternate nights with the normal ASTRO meetings. I tried to demonstrate the Bedini motor I have built and although it ran perfectly at home, it would not fire into life at the meeting. We did have an interesting discussion about this motor, including the fact that under load, the input current does reduce, however so does the RPMs, so there are less pulses per minute and so there is less average current. In other words unless I am missing something, it appears that once again, no free energy here! I also talked about a flyer Brian had given me that afternoon on a new type of sparkplug called a Halo which it is claimed the usual "more power, less fuel and 400,000Kms between changes."

Roger passed around a cartoon from the 1800s showing a solar collector powering a printing press and he also mentioned an item in the media on Bob Carr driving a car claiming to save 30% on fuel costs. Has anyone seen it or have more details? Ron then showed his version of the Beck Zapper which is constructed with surface mount components and fits into a very small bag. He also demonstrated a programme called "Text Aloud" which as the name suggests converts text off the screen into audio. All our audio tapes are now on one CD thanks to Ron so the information is now stored on a much safer medium.

Jan is still looking for somebody mechanically minded to help him with the construction of a gravity wheel which is to be used in a video that he has been asked tocontribute to.

Ken thanked Ron for the MP3 work he has been doing for the group and then talked about his phono preamp that he is building. It is a valve preamp with no negative feedback, passive tone controls, runs on a 300V supply, has DC heater supply and uses six triodes. Frequency response goes from 10Hz and is still flat at 100Khz, clipping occurs at 50V, at 0dB out the total harmonic distortion  is <0.02%. Ken mentioned that one of the secrets to building low noise audio equipment is to use wire wound resistors and that the only way to tell if they are wire wound is to sacrifice one with a hammer.

After various discussions including Browns Gas and the Dillon gas torch, Jan talked about his experiment with keeping an arc from a welder going underwater and collecting the gas. Ken mentioned aquagas and the Naudin website for more information. This was followed by Bob who gave a demonstration of an ultrasonic mist maker device, causing mist to rise from a saucepan full of water. This unit creates microfine droplets of water with the question being, could it be adapted to a motor vehicle to vaporise petrol?

The final demonstration was from Devashon with an update on his vortex  and flowform constructions. The meeting had sort of finished at this stage with several groups talking amongst themselves, however Roger still managed to let people know of some  upcoming events around Adelaide. Tea and bickies followed with most people gone by about 10.30pm.  ...Bruce

Atomic Hydrogen Blowtorch

Invented by Langmuir in 1926 , this device produces a temperature of 3700 degrees centigrade. Tungsten can be melted, diamond vapourised. A jet of hydrogen gas is dissociated as it passes through an electric arc. H2> H + H - 422 kJ. An endothermic reaction, with the intensely hot plasma core of the arc providing the dissociation energy. The atomic hydrogen produced soon recombines; and this recombination is the source of such high temperatures (easily outperforming oxy-hydrogen: 2800oC and oxy-acetylene: 3315oC).

The hydrogen can be thought of as simply a transport mechanism to extract energy from the arc plasma and transfer it to a work surface. It produces a true flame, as the heat is liberated by a chemical reaction. H + H > H2 + 422kJ. The molecular hydrogen burns off in the atmosphere, contributing little to the heat output.

From the May 1, 1926 issue of The Science News-Letter -

"...developed by Dr. Irving Langmuir, assistant director of the Schenectady laboratory, and makes use of what he calls flames of atomic hydrogen.... Electric currents of 20 amperes and at voltages ranging from 300 to 800"
From A Text Book of Inorganic Chemistry, Partington 1946 -

"Atomic hydrogen. - Langmuir (1912) has shown that hydrogen in contact with a tungsten wire heated by an electric current at low pressure, is dissociated into atoms:
H2 <=> 2H. This splitting of the hydrogen molecule is attended by the absorption of a large amount of energy, about 100kcal per gram molecule. The atomic hydrogen so formed is chemically very active. Langmuir also showed that atomic hydrogen is formed when an electric arc between tungsten electrodes is allowed to burn in hydrogen at atmospheric pressure. The atomic hydrogen was blown out of the arc by a jet of molecular hydrogen directed across the arc, and formed an intensely hot flame, which is capable of melting tungsten (m.p. 3400oC). This flame obtains its heat not from combustion but from the recombination of hydrogen atoms into H2. It is suitable for melting and welding many metals. Iron can be melted without contamination with carbon, oxygen or nitrogen. Because of the powerful reducing action of the atomic hydrogen, alloys can be melted without fluxes and without surface oxidation. A feature of the flame is the great rapidity with which heat can be delivered to a surface, which is very important in welding operations."

Atomic hydrogen welding

Used extensively before the second world war, particularly in germany. The method was known as Arc-Atom. The welding torch consists of two inclined tungsten electrodes across which an AC arc is struck. Annular nozzles around the electrodes carry hydrogen gas. The gas streams converge forming a fan shaped flame. A transformer with an open circuit voltage of 300V is required to strike and maintain the arc in hydrogen.

Because of the high thermal conductivity of hydrogen, the plasma channel in the arc is constricted, offering very high energy concentration. Arc-Atom welding was of particular use for such jobs as surfacing dies, where the high flame temperature enabled a thin surface layer to be deposited on the thick base metal. Modern sheilding gas methods such as MIG and TIG processes have replaced Arc-Atom, but do not have the extreme temperatures and arc constriction qualities of atomic hydrogen.

All informations and diagrams are published freely (freeware) and are intended for a private use and a non commercial use.

The Cold Fusion Reactor ( CFR v2.0 ) is fully based on the work of the researchers Tadahiko MIZUNO and Tadayoshi OHMORI from the Hokkaido University in Japan.

You will find below a preliminary test about this new device.

1 - Cold Fusion Reactor v2.0 - Description :

The Cold Fusion Reactor v2.0 is composed of a 1000 mL borosilicate glass filled with a 600 mL of demineralized water and 16.6 g of Potassium Carbonate ( K2CO3 ), the electrolyte solution used is 0.2 molar ( 0.2 M, ).

The Cathode used is a tungsten rod ( Th-loaded W ) 6 mm diameter and 45 mm length from tungsten TIG electrodes (WT20) commonly used forTIG and Plasma welding. The Anode used is composed of stainless steel mesh maintained with a stainless steel shaft. All the wires connections are made with a 1.5 mm2 copper flexible wire gained with silicon.

I have used a tungsten TIG WT20 ( with ThO2: 1.70-2.20% ), on the Left

2 - Experimental test setup :

The CFR v2.0 is powered with a DC voltage through a bridge rectifier connected through an adjustable isolation transformer to the 220V AC power grid line. The voltage input has been measured with a digital oscilloscope Fluke 123 with aShielded Test Lead STL 120 ( 1:1, 1 Mohms/225 pF ). The current input has been measured with a current clamp CIE Model CA-60A ( Accuracy DC Amps ±1.5%, AC Amps±2% (40Hz-2kHz), AC Amps±4%(2kHz-10kHz), AC Amps±6%(10kHz-20kHz) ). The temperature has been measured with a type "K" temp probe ( NiCrNi ) connected on a VC506 digital multimeter ( -20°C to +1200 °C with an accuracy of +/- 3% ). ( see the photo above ).

3 - Tests results :

Two tests runs at different starting temperature have been conducted. The plasma Power is very strong inside the reactor and the tungsten cathode is fully incandescent. The test of the CFR v2.0 is really impressive...

During the tests, the production of steam is very strong ( see below )

RUN #1 ( STARTING TEMPERATURE = 75°C)

Test procedure :

1) The temperature of the K2CO3 solution in the CFR has been set initially to 75°C.
2) The weight of the CFR has been measured initially, it was 1034 g.
3) The power supply has been switched on continuously and the Voltage/Current datas has been recorded in the Fluke 123 digital oscilloscope used as a data logger, up to a temperature of 95°C.
4) Then the weight of the CFR has been measured, it was 1008 g.

The run time of the CFR has been 39.0 seconds.

TEST RUN #1 : POWER INPUT/OUPUT and EFFICIENCY of the CFR v2.0 :

The Voltage/Current datas logged give an average electrical power input of 1719.2 Wattsduring 39.0 seconds, so this gives :

ELECTRICAL ENERGY INPUT = 67048 Joules

The evaporated water in the CFR during the full boiling was 26 mL. We know that we need 2260 J/g to vaporize water. The temperature rise of the 600 mL was 20°C. So, this gives :

ENERGY OUTPUT = ( 26 x 2260 ) + ( 600 x 20 x 4.18 ) = 108920 Joules

Power OUTPUT = 2792.8 Watts, Net Power Gain = 1073.6 Watts

Energy OUTPUT/INPUT = 108920 / 67048 = 1.62

RUN #2 ( STARTING TEMPERATURE = 82°C)

Test procedure :

1) The temperature of the K2CO3 solution in the CFR has been set initially to 82°C.
2) The weight of the CFR has been measured initially, it was 1018 g.
3) The power supply has been switched on continuously and the Voltage/Current datas has been recorded in the Fluke 123 digital oscilloscope used as a data logger, up to a temperature of 97°C.
4) Then the weight of the CFR has been measured, it was 986 g.

The run time of the CFR has been 35.2 seconds.

TEST RUN #2 : POWER INPUT/OUPUT and EFFICIENCY of the CFR v2.0 :

The Voltage/Current datas logged give an average electrical power input of 1400.1 Wattsduring 35.2 seconds, so this gives :

ELECTRICAL ENERGY INPUT = 49282 Joules

The evaporated water in the CFR during the full boiling was 32 mL. We know that we need 2260 J/g to vaporize water. The temperature rise of the 600 mL was 15°C. So, this gives :

ENERGY OUTPUT = ( 32 x 2260 ) + ( 600 x 15 x 4.18 ) = 109940 Joules

Power OUTPUT = 3123.3 Watts, Net Power Gain = 1732.2 Watts

Energy OUTPUT/INPUT = 109940 / 49282 = 2.23

After some tests runs at High Power, the Th-Loaded Tungesten Cathode is still clean and not damaged.

Note from JL Naudin : The High Power CFR v2.0 is really impressive, the power output is indeniable. The starting temperature is very important for getting the best efficiency of the reactor. Higher the initial temperature, lower is the current required, the current requirement drops while the temperature increase. At the ambiant temperature ( about 20°C ), there is no plasma formation, there is only an electrolysis effect. The plasma around the W cathode is able to start at about 70°C and the tungsten cathode begins incandescent at about 85°C and the production of steam is very strong. This version of the CFR v2.0 look very promising...

ASTRO MEETING May 9th 2003

PETER'S PAGE

The meeting was started at 8:12 by Robert, with apologies from Ken and Mathew.
In General Business a motion was accepted that :-

1./ ASTRO SA uses only the Clarence Park venue for all meetings.

2./ ASTRO meetings be on the second Friday evening in the month.

3./ ASTRO Technical meetings be held on the second Friday in the month of January, March, May, July, September and November.

4./ ASTRO Technical meetings are to be kept in their current format, that is, it is for projects (constructed items) to be displayed, and
the speaker talks about the project that he or she is displaying.

5./ ASTRO ordinary meetings be held on the second Friday in the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December.

6./ All ASTRO property as far as practicable, is to be kept at the hall. (library, crockery etc.)

7./ There is to be one newsletter every two months, which will be distributed at ordinary meetings.

Dino...produced a cut down Fischer &Paykel washing machine drum with a fixed motor at the bottom that he had modified into a water
driven AC 117V generator. He used the garden hose (out back) to demonstrated it lighting up a globe.

Dino...described an experiment that he conducted with an underwater speaker that he had modified into a sensitive electrical charge
detector. He had removed one of the input wires, and using his body as an antenna, he said that he walked up to a printer and touched
it and a radio station came through. He then touched a cable and he could hear telephone calls. The tin roof apparently picked up
considerable charges as he heard it crackling from a distance.

Vic...produced an ion detector that he had constructed. It consisted of a single field effect transistor tuneable amplifier in a small
plastic jiffy box. He demonstrated it by detecting the ion charge prodeced by rubbing a plastic rod on Jan. Vic said that this device
could be used to detect the working efficiency of a Joe Cell, and possibly used to tune them. He said that his next project was to
detect the earth's magnetic field ( Schumann Resonance).

Peter...spoke on an article from May - June 2003 Hard Evidence magazine titled " Blindness, Mad Cow Disease and Canola Oil", where
John Thomas claimed that the real cause of loss of vision through Glaucoma was agglutination (clumping together) of the blood cells.
They could not pass through the extremely tiny capillaries in the posterior of the eye and could not deliver oxygen to the mitochondria
and take out the waste, thus the optic nerves deteriorated and caused a slow blindness over about ten years. The cause of this agglutination
of the blood was stated as the result of eating soy and canola oils. Canola and soy apparently form latex-like substances that stick together
the red blood corpuscles. Loss of vision is apparently is a known side effect of rape seed, from which Canola is genetically engineered.

Peter then spoke on Alzheimer's disease and Fluoride toothpaste, where the fluoride forces the body to uptake the
aluminium oxide (bauxite) that is present in the toothpaste as a fine abrasive. Aluminium cookware is chicken-feed compared to fluoride toothpaste.

He also mentioned a RENSE article on a meteor that was disintegrated just before it hit the earth in Turkey last November. There were many
reputable eye witnesses, including passengers and crew from four aircraft. The article stated that the meteor was large enough to have
caused massive devastation across the whole face of the earth. Funny how the media missed out on this one as the authorities in Turkey
took fifteen days to interview all of the witnesses. This must have rattled Big Brother, knowing that someone else also has control over us.

Yanis...gave an update on the "Polish Shock - Absorbing Bumper" saying that it was now a reality. He had seen a video of the inventor
driving his car into a solid brick wall at 80 Kph and sustaining no damage to either himself or the car. He  also gave a demonstration
of an ultra-sonic water feature device placed into a bowl of water. It produced a fine water mist into a bright blue light.

Robert then introduced himself as the night's GUEST SPEAKER.

He spoke on and demonstrated a Russian hand held "Star Treck" style electro healing device. It was called the S.C.E.N.A.R., which
stood for Self-Controlled Energo Neuro Adaptive Regulation. It was developed for the Russian space program to treat the whole crew with
a non pharmaceutical option. The water on a space ship is recycled, and drug type medicines are inappropriate. It works on the concept
that the body has superb and intrinsic healing mechanisms, which sometimes overload and the body does not heal. The Scenar uses
computer controlled bio-feedback, by stimulating the nervous system, to teach the body to heal itself again. In Russia there are over
50,000 cases of the devices use by over 600 practitioners. The device is used on most types of disease or injury: circulatory, sensory,
respiratory, neurological, genito-urinary, musculo-skeletal, gastro-intestinal, endocrine, immune and psychological disorders.

That ended a great night.
Until next time...PeterP
